Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to point out the possibilities and potential restrictions ofreligious education in terms of tolerance as one of the core values in the contemporaryworld. The nature of the society and the changes it carries are reflected in the field of education, which often leads to distancing school from its primary task-educating virtue inhumans. From the second half of the 20th century, the work on the development of humanrights and the promotion of respect among people, regardless of existing differences, isintensified. Educational institutions have an important role in this process and they striveto fulfill it in various ways. One of the strategies is the incorporation of subjects whoseprimary objective is the development of the moral side of one’s personality, thoroughlearning about the beauty and the value of one’s own religion, as well as to that of others. In this way, the full development of personality is encouraged and the traits essential fortoday’s society are formed, which all would not be fully achieved without such subjects.
