Summary/Abstract: The article contains the analysis of actions taken by the Scottish Government aiming at independence of this country. There is an attempt to answer the question what are the consequences of leaving the United Kingdom for this country. In addition, the paper refers to the results of the 2016 referendum on the UK's exit from the European Union, which provides a starting point for further consideration of the causes of growing independence attitudes in Scotland. The direct consequences of Brexit for the country are also discussed with several examples. The author shows that the future of Scotland is uncertain, because the result of a potential independence referendum is unclear, as well as the possible consent of the government in London to hold it again.
