Summary/Abstract: In cultural sense from all four sites of the world, the less examined, in the entire historiography of our civilization is the south. This article has an intention to fill this significant gap in the cultural studies of the Western world. On the other hand the Eastern world looks at the south simply as at a place where one can get warm, as a holiday destination, so to speak. Having in mind the big attempts of the intellectuals in the sixties, including the artists, and their casa mediterranea – and the wind-of-changes intellectuals, who depicted the fall of the iron curtain, this paper through analyzing the historical layers of the western civilization explores the latest tendencies in the cultural rethinking of the southern legacies in the Old World and across the big swamp.
