Summary/Abstract: Although not all textbooks of Czech as a foreign language teach grammatical paradigms, the textbooks are clearly designed in a way that shows the authors have these paradigms in mind. Nouns that decline according to the pattern of kuře (“chicken”) are often given short shrift because there are few of them; however, the words from this declension are both essential and frequent. As a result, the author of this article devotes considerable attention to these nouns when teaching at the B1 level. This article introduces texts suitable for this focus, as well as exercises that have worked in practice. These can both supplement Czech textbooks and help those who prefer to forego textbooks in order to work with authentic texts.
