Summary/Abstract: The original of Pylyp Orlyk’s Diary, written in 1720-1732, is deposited in the Diplomatic Archives of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The present edition, based on the part of the manuscript encompassing the years 1725 and 1726, is the first Polish presentation of this interesting historical source. Readers of the diary can observe the culture in which the Hetman operated and follow the paths he took in his fight for the freedom of Ukraine, where he is revered as a great national hero. For modern Poles, in turn, Pylyp Orlyk is an in many ways exceptional representative of the First Republic elite.
