Summary/Abstract: The biography of Jakub Przyłuski is outlined in the volume. The characteristics of his poetry were associated with it. Against the background of the current state of research, selected elements of the writer's and lawyer's main work, Leges seu statuta ac privilegia Regni Poloniae, were presented. The research also covered the author's activity as a town writer in Przemyśl, taking into account the background of the functioning of his office. Przyłuski's correspondence with Stanisław Orzechowski was also discussed in the context of Piotr Kmita's milieu, in whose circle he was a patron, and relations with the Reformation. Fragments of the Speech to the Polish Nobility by Orzechowski were also analyzed, serving as a kind of introduction to the work of Przyłuski, the Acts, statutes and privileges of the Kingdom of Poland. The volume also presents the history of the Benedictine monastery in Jeżów, which was presented as the cultural background of the childhood and youth of the later Przemyśl and Kraków writers.

- Summary/Abstract:Jakub Przyłuski was born around 1512. He came from Jeżów, in the Rawa region, in Mazovia. He was the son of Mikołaj and came from a noble family. It is known that he died at the beginning of 1554. The poet signed himself as Jacobus Priluscius, but he also used the following forms: Jessovius, Jeżowita, Jeżowita — a bachelor. On July 30, 1528 Przyłuski began studies at the Krakow Academy. Little is known about this period of his life. For many years he was associated with the court of the Kraków voivode, Piotr Kmita (1477–1553), where he was employed as a secretary. From the will of a patron, from April 1540, for eight years he was a town writer in Przemyśl. Jeżowita, as a Przemyśl town writer, described the meaning of court books in a Latin verse. He parted with Przemyśl for good, when in 1551 he took over the position of a Kraków land writer after Jan Taszycki. Przyłuski established cooperation with the Prussian prince Albrecht, who, as we know, created the center of Lutheran Reformation thought in the capital city of Königsberg, which has little impact on the literary work of Jeżowita. In his poetry, Przyłuski has a lot of occasional poems, including laudatory ones, praising the literary successes of befriended authors and texts on funeral subjects. The works by Przyłuski that have been waiting for his researcher are discussed here, as well as Latin texts printed as elements of the publishing framework of books, the importance of which was praised by Jacobus Priluscius. Jeżowita’s literary output has been partially lost. What is left is urgently waiting for the philologist-editor and translator to prepare a volume of collected works by Jakub Przyłuski, in a bilingual version. Latin texts for the study of meticulous researchers, texts in Polish translation for a wide circle of readers.

- Summary/Abstract:This paper is primarily a presentation of the remarkable figure of Stanisław Orzechowski (1513–1566), an outstanding Polish writer and political and religious polemicist. His attitude may raise doubts, considering that he was first associated with the Protestant Reformation, but then he became a champion of the Catholic Counter-Reformation, but in his writings he shows himself to be a foremost expert on the Polish political scene and systemic issues. His Speech to the Polish Nobility (1560), which was an introduction to the work of Jakub Przyłuski, entitled The Laws, Statutes and Privileges of the Kingdom of Poland, praises, on the one hand, the Polish political system and the political mind of the nobility, but on the other hand, it contains some premonitions about the future threats that were soon to materialize. The author of the paper emphasizes the organic relationship of this work with the study by Przyłuski and tries to bring out such threads of Orzechowski’s thought that were continued also in our contemporary times.

- Summary/Abstract:The study is devoted to the most important work of Przyłuski, “Leges seu Statuta ac privilegia Regni Poloniae”. It discusses the genesis of this set of laws, taking into account the will of Sigismund II August as the initiator of this undertaking, the intellectual environment (including Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski, Stanisław Orzechowski, Andrzej Trzecieski) and the political environment (supporters of the execution movement), in which the work was created and thanks to which could take on meaning. The existence of two editorial offices and editions of the work was indicated (from 1548 and from 1553). Presenting the results of the research of his predecessors (Bolesław Ulanowski, Bolesław Boczek, Stanisław Skimina, Henryk Grajewski), the article emphasizes the dependence of “Leges seu Statuta” on Roman law, which was revealed, among others, by under construction. Having presented the six-part structure of the set of laws, as well as the presence of extensive commentaries on current religious and political disputes in the work, the article highlights selected issues discussed by Przyłuski, such as: the world order and the role of divine law in it, the role of lawyers in the functioning of the state, the essence of nobility , organization of cities and life of peasants. At the end of the discussion, the article shows the reasons why the work was not allowed to use in the judiciary (extensive excursions on current problems, anti-Catholic pronunciation, undisguised support for the Reformation). It is also about the use of “Leges seu Statuta” by authors of subsequent legal works, especially by Jan Herburt, the author of Statutes and crown privileges.
