Summary/Abstract: This book tells the story of a great Bulgarian woman - Baba Tonka Obretenova. For the freedom of Bulgaria she sacrificed her life and property, two of her sons – George and Peter, who died in battles with the Turkish hordes. Her son Angel was sentenced to imprisonment in Diyarbekir, her son Nikola was in the Hristo Botev’s group of revolutionaries. Her house on the banks of the Danube in Ruse was a refuge for the revolutionaries. Blagovesta Kasabova’s book describes artistically the bravest feats and patriotic deeds of Baba Tonka – mother not only of her sons and daughters, but also of all the Bulgarian freedom fighters whom she loved like native children.
