Summary/Abstract: The publication deals with current topic of development of communicative competence in oral interaction in lessons of English as a foreign language taught with an interactive whiteboard. It aims to find out if and how the oral interaction in a target language is influenced while an interactive board is being used. The research instrument was qualitative structured observation carried out in basic schools in the Czech Republic which lead to analysis of the observation records. The key finding resulting from the observations is that teachers who do not apply the principles of communication approach use an interactive board in a very traditional way and modern technologies do not contribute to the change of their teaching style.
