Summary/Abstract: The publication attempts to reconstruct and analyse the concepts of transnational structures in French political and legal thought from the Enlightenment to modern times. The author argues that key modern concepts of substituting or limiting state sovereignty towards transnational power structures originate in the Enlightenment and 1789 French Revolution. Referring to the extensive subject literature, he demonstrates that in France, traditionally associated with statism and the affirmation of national sovereignty, there is a wealth of entirely different trends. France can be considered a kind of “bastion” of revolutionary universalism, from which many radicals, regardless of their nationality, derive directly or indirectly.
