Summary/Abstract: This book delves into the topic of negation in English and Bosnian within the framework of generative grammar, specifically within the scope of Minimalism, with a particular emphasis on English nonverbal negation and its Bosnian translation equivalents. The primary objective is to address the question of why sentential negation in English can be expressed solely by the presence of neg-feature on negative constituents without negating the verb, whereas this option is not viable in Bosnian. Given that neg-feature is considered a formal feature, particular attention is dedicated to formal features and their interpretability. The analysis of English nonverbal negation is based on the interpretative analysis adopted from Kato (2003), which hinges upon fundamental notions of c-command and closeness, as well as feature-sharing. The Bosnian translation equivalents of English nonverbal negation have been roughly classified into four categories: the first category comprises instances in which both a verb and a constituent are negated, the second category includes instances where only a verb is negated, the third category encompasses cases where only a constituent is negated and the fourth category involves instances where neither a verb nor any constituent is negated. The analysis of the Bosnian translation equivalents is chiefly focused on the first two categories. Particular attention is given to the interpretability of formal features and feature checking.
