- Summary/Abstract:The urban links between psychology and architecture is closer than it looks at first glance: A somehow marginalized literature focuses on the notion of ‘phallic architecture’ which is loosely conceptualized as the urban high rises that were intentionally or unintentionally built to symbolize phallus. While global examples of intentional phallic architecture usually serves as touristic attractions, psychology as a discipline rarely focused on unintentional phallic architecture. Given the scarcity of comprehensive works on this topic, this chapter tries to develop some psychologically-grounded arguments based on a few relevant sources. Secondly, the chapter reviews discussions about urban quality of life and the notion of ‘skyscraped city’ from a psychological perspective, together with spatial segregation not only on class lines or ethnic lines, but also on the distinction between advantaged vs. disadvantaged urban residents including social capital relations. Thirdly, the chapter connects the area of environmental psychology with the participatory approaches in the field of urban planning to extend beyond a critique of existing order by detailing a ‘planning for people, by people and with people’ framework. As stated in Gezgin (2011), environmental psychology revolves on research about the following: “Psychological effects of urban policies; place attachment and place identity; perceptions of city image and urban design; pro-environmental behavior, transportation choices, urban navigation and commuting issues; urban noise, recycling behavior, energy-related behaviors, green identities; and perceptions, attitudes and information on green issues such climate change, global warming, sustainability, conservation, biodiversity, and mitigation measures.” Finally, as the backdrop to all these topics covered in the chapter, the debates on social engineering are on the spot, since the chapter conceptualizes psychology and architecture as two subareas of social engineering, following a holistic analysis of ‘authority’. The chapter plans to reverse-engineer psychology and architecture in this context.

- Summary/Abstract:Organology is a discipline that focuses on the structural characteristics and functions of musical instruments. Through the science of organology, instruments provide profound insights into the diverse cultural elements they embody, thereby carrying traces not only of their role as intermediaries of music but also of historical significance. The ultimate aim of this study is to elucidate the traces of intercultural exchange by leveraging the historical development of bowed string instruments, which have also permeated Turkish culture through the cultural interactions between different geographical regions. Through organology, the structure and materials of musical instruments can be elucidated, shedding light on the socio-cultural context in addition to the climatic and socio-economic conditions of various geographical regions. This discipline entails the classification of different musical instruments into general categories such as bowed string instruments, wind instruments, keyboard instruments, and percussion instruments, with a particular focus on the development of bowed string instruments in this study. Organological research examines the structural analysis of musical instruments, encompassing a comprehensive examination of the components, materials, dimensions, and shapes of an instrument. Moreover, organology delves into the functionality and playing techniques of musical instruments, investigating how an instrument is played, the techniques employed, and the sounds produced. This encompasses aspects such as correct playing positions, finger placements, breathing techniques, and bowing techniques. Through the study of Organology, which investigates the historical development, origins, and evolution of musical instruments in different cultures, a comprehensive understanding of the cultural, historical, and sociocultural contexts surrounding these instruments is achieved. The purpose of this study is to examine the development of string instruments from past to present from an organological perspective.

- Summary/Abstract:In addition to developing skills specific to the age group for which it is provided, art education formation and content is one of the most effective and distinct ways to reflect the individual’s self-expression, and the chaotic spiritual state of especially children and young adults in adolescence by means of the alternatives it provides. Whether it be systematically provided, in ideal, or not, art and opportunities for expression have always existed since time immemorial, and they will keep existing forever. By nature, humans are not only consuming, but also wondering, producing, transforming, learning, sensing, and reasoning beings. For this reason, what seems to be simple yet is influential in this random order of functioning is the value they add to themselves, to their societies and to the world through their liveliness. This liveliness refers to mental, spiritual, and physical health and vivacity. This value is, most frequently, science, technology, or art. The fundamental function and goal of education, too, is to bring up mentally, spiritually, and physically balanced and healthy individuals. The most effectual tool in reaching this goal is art and design education. From pre-school to college, from the teen who receives art and design education at college to students enrolled in law, medicine, engineering, or classroom teaching programs, everyone has the right to live in an aesthetical environment and with well-balanced people, and the way to provide this in education is through art and design. People with self-confidence, taste, and the ability to express themselves represent the ideal citizen profile needed in all countries, and it is the duty of all democratic governments to train their citizens multi-dimensionally. In short, solving problems requires creativity, and skills through which to accurately evaluate and to analytically assess belong to independent individuals. The basic and easiest way to supply these is to train people, from a very young age, by means of art, to lay out the required educational environment under the leadership of teachers and academics who embrace art, and to assess the outputs of this systematic educational environment. The output of education is educated individuals. This is the fruit that demands the utmost care, that is achieved through the most arduous ways and in the longest time, and that is the most valuable for the society. Although creativity does not require education, its accurate appraisal and sustenance necessitates programed art and design education. Basic design/art education programs are those in which creative thinking develops and critical perspectives and peer reviews are prioritized. While the content and output of these programs help the students to form both personal and professional lives, they will also guide and lead them throughout life.

- Summary/Abstract:The search for a place to which human beings are directed in line with various motivations such as shelter, heating, protection and privacy dates back to the Paleolithic Ages. Mankind's first space production practices have diversified over time from the caves found in nature as a restricted area used in the early stages of history in line with their needs. The main problematic of the architecture perceived through the senses is the space, today the user needs, ergonomics, functionality and aesthetics. In the historical process, various materials have been preferred as building materials. Material knowledge in interior design requires the physical, chemical, mechanical properties of the components used and at the same time aesthetically compatible preferences. Due to its strength and plastic properties, ceramic clay has taken place in the building tradition in the historical process. Clay, which has been used as a building material for ages, has been expanded over time thanks to the developing industry power and modern technology. In addition to its use as a building material, it appears as aesthetic-functional complements. At the same time, it is used in interior design in terms of providing functional solutions in accordance with the flexible design concept. In this study, the place and contribution of ceramic art and terracotta materials in the discipline of interior architecture in the historical process are discussed. For this purpose, the Art Nouveau Bauhaus school understanding of education, which radically changed the role and function of ceramic-design in interior design, the concept of modernism and the mutual dialogues of the ceramic-space disciplines experienced in the changing production understanding afterwards were emphasized. In this context, the changing periodic conditions in the ceramic-space relationship, the creativity provided by the material in interior design, functional alternative designs were evaluated. The relationship between ceramics and architecture in today's interior design has been demonstrated through examples.

- Summary/Abstract:With the advent of artificial intelligence technologies, a new era has emerged in terms of art production. Artificial intelligence algorithms are used in the creation and recreation of artworks, assisting artists in their creative processes. Digital art enables artists to create innovative works through computer-based programs and software. Technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality also offer artists interactive art experiences. They expand the boundaries of artistic creativity and give rise to a new artistic language. This creative collaboration could propel the art world even further. The convergence between artists and artificial intelligence has indeed brought forth new creative potential. However, the relationship between artificial intelligence and art has been a subject of debate due to its positive and negative aspects. Artists can create innovative works in digital environments using computer-based programs and artificial intelligence algorithms. Technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality offer audiences an interactive act of experimental art. Nevertheless, the convergence of artificial intelligence and art has raised some concerns. There is a frequent concern that artificial intelligence might diminish the originality and human touch of art. Artworks generated by artificial intelligence can sometimes overshadow the artist's personal expression and creativity. Additionally, biases and limitations within artificial intelligence algorithms can be reflected in the artworks, jeopardizing the diversity and uniqueness of art. Artists and artificial intelligence developers need to work together to address the ethical and aesthetic issues associated with this new collaboration. At the same time, the new possibilities created by artificial intelligence in the field of art and the potential for expanding the boundaries of creativity should not be overlooked. This subject necessitates in-depth discussions and explorations among artists, artificial intelligence developers, and audiences. Establishing ethical and aesthetic norms regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the art domain is a significant step for the future of art.

- Summary/Abstract:“Mouth of Truth” relief is known as a mythical relief thought to represent the Roman Sea God Oceanus. It is believed that Oceanus bites his hand if the person who puts his hand in his mouth is a liar. This legend has caused the relief to be named "The Mouth of Truth". It has also been suggested for a long time that the statue was used as part of a polygraph test. The statue, thought to have been made in the 1st century BC, is also considered an iconic symbol of Rome. In the post-truth era, reaching the truth is not as easy as in this myth. So much so that the relationship between the truth and the truth rather than its relationship with the lie has become worth questioning. The concepts of reality and truth, as well as being difficult to define, have often been used to refer to information that is "verifiable" or "considered true". In the modern world, on the other hand, truth is often seen as something that can be verified by scientific methods or empirical evidence. However, with the post-modern age, the situations that started to replace reality and truth have created a new definition, and a political and social concept, the concept of post-truth, which has been emphasized a lot in recent years, has begun to be discussed. The relationship between art and reality is already complex by nature. Realities in works of art are fictionalized as artist designs and are subject to the interpretation of the audience. This interpretable aspect of art can lead to opinions about whether the reality or the truth is interpretable in a way. In this respect, the cases of truth and error can be resolved within the framework of the concept of post-truth, especially in the work of the mouth of truth. With this study, Art's Persuasiveness or Deception in the Context of the Mouth of Truth Myth, it is aimed to analyze an ancient work in the context of art and persuasiveness or art and deception.

- Summary/Abstract:Since ancient times, man has been in search of materials to decorate himself and his environment, and coloring materials have always attracted his attention. Mankind first obtained these materials from soil minerals and then used organic dyes obtained from natural products such as plants, animals, mushrooms, etc. As soon as their skills in weaving developed, they developed natural dyes and dyeing techniques. While they used to obtain monochromatic products at first, they later succeeded in using more than one color on a product in harmony. It is known that most dresses and fabrics, from caftans to plain fabrics, from dresses to baizes, which represent splendor and power in Ottoman palace fabrics, were colored using natural dyes. The dyes used by the Ottomans and the dyeing industry were passed from father to son, and continuity was ensured. Even today, the majority of the colors in the Ottoman palace weavings, which are in the museum collections and have great importance, still preserve their vitality. When it comes to natural dyes in Ottoman palace weavings, the first thing that comes to mind was the natural dye sources of animal origin, and these dyes were obtained from animals of female insect origin. The color obtained from insect-sourced dyes is almost the same as each other and formed the ground color, especially in the sultan's and prince's caftans. In addition to dyes of animal origin, Ottoman dyers also used vegetable dyes from which they obtained various colors. Sometimes by combining both vegetable and animal dye sources, they achieved various colors and hues. Here, the effect of Anatolia's rich plant diversity is quite high. In this research, after the natural dyeing process from the past to the Ottomans is briefly discussed, introduction about to Ottoman dyeing and dyeing industry was given. Then, the main plant and animal natural dyes that color the Ottoman palace weavings, their properties, and the agent dyestuffs they contain are examined.

- Summary/Abstract:Maurits Cornelis Escher makes a striking impact on the art world with his work "Day and Night". This work is full of complex geometric patterns and optical illusions that reflect Escher's characteristic style. The artist, who questions the perception of reality on a two-dimensional plane, manages to impress the viewer with visual contradictions. In his work "Night and Day", Escher creates a complex relationship between geometric shapes and figures when comparing black and white colors decently. Repeating patterns, endless loops and inverted forms form the main theme of the work. While following order and symmetry, the viewer, on the other hand, is drawn into a contradictory and uncertain world. Escher's ingenuity combined with his ability to create visual illusions. In "Night and Day", the motifs created by the masterful combination of positive and negative areas attract the attention of the audience. This is an example that highlights the artist's optical illusions that distort the perception of reality. At the core of "Night and Day" lies the idea that opposites can come together and exist in harmony. Escher not only presents an aesthetic experience with a visual paradox, but also refers to the complexity of human thought. All in all, "Night and Day" is an impressive work that showcases Maurits Cornelis Escher's artistic genius and extraordinary perspective. More than 600 editions of this painting have been exhibited in many countries. It should be noted that it is an important work that Turkish art audiences must see closely and examine its details.
