- Summary/Abstract:Although the interest in courage behaviors is as old as the existence of human beings, empirical studies on the potential workplace impact of courage in the academic context are still in their infancy and are not sufficient in terms of data on the content of the concept. Social courage is an individual-based method of struggle against behaviors that harm the organization beyond benevolent behaviors in the organization. These behaviors, which are associated with the Big Five Personality dimensions, have revealed many individual and organizational positive results in the organizational environment. In this context, the aim of this study is to indicate the scope and importance of social courage behaviors and to reveal the causes and consequences of their emergence in the organizational environment.

- Summary/Abstract:Technological advances that marked the century we live in have led to significant transformations in both education and working life. The fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) covering these new technologies required by the age offer the opportunity to meet the needs of the century. However, as in many social, cultural, economic and political areas of life, STEM fields are also areas where male hegemony is reproduced and where gender inequality is present. Starting from the socialization process, women who were brought up in the axis of gender-based norms could not find a place for themselves in these areas in the process from primary school to their careers; STEM fields have become departments and occupations where men are concentrated. Due to institutionalized sexism, women, who struggle with vertical segregation in the mentioned areas as well as the horizontal segregation they are exposed to first in education and then in business life, experience various disadvantages by falling behind the requirements of the age. The low representation of women in STEM fields and the low number of women who will be role models for girls and young women create a vicious circle in the context of gender inequality. In the light of all these, the aim of this study is; to address the inadequacy of women's representation in STEM fields in education and employment, and the social and economic exclusion practices of women in this sense, in the context of gender inequality. In this direction, the current situation has been tried to be revealed with examples from the world and Turkey, besides the literature review on the subject in a comprehensive manner. All findings show that there is gender inequality in STEM education and employment against young girls and women.

- Summary/Abstract:Ultrasound devices used mobile in veterinary clinics and by physicians are very costly and many criteria should be taken into account in the determination process of these ultrasound devices. Optimum selection of these devices is in the class of complex problems among decision making problems as it involves the evaluation of various criteria. This study is to determine the most suitable device for the relevant veterinary clinic with multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods, especially among the same type of ultrasound devices when there are alternatives. The solution of the related decision problem is modeled using an integrated structure with Smart-TOPSIS methods. The basis of the evaluation processes (MCDM) is the applicability of the methods. The criteria and alternatives of the created solution model were determined by using the opinions of veterinarians working in the field and the literature. A case study was conducted to determine the most appropriate ultrasound device required in a veterinary clinic in Düzce. The results revealed that the most suitable and worst ultrasound device could be detected with Smart-TOPSIS methods. Analysis findings were shared with relevant veterinarians and businesses.

- Summary/Abstract:Electric motorcycles are one of the preferred vehicles in both business and daily life in Türkiye due to the increasing fuel costs, ease of use, low purchase price, and positive impact on the environment. However, determining which electric motorcycle consumers in Türkiye would prefer poses a problem. The aim of this study is to determine the ranking of electric motorcycles available for sale in Türkiye. In order to make the ranking, criteria such as charging distance, charging time, motor power, maximum speed, and price have been considered. Additionally, the following brands and models of electric motorcycles available for sale in Türkiye have been taken as alternatives: Arora-Herkül, City Coco-V2, Falcon-EnjoyPlus, Kral Motor-KR25 AVA 5000, Kuba-GT5, Mondial-E-Mon Empre, Motolux-ALF Plus Luxi RKS-Neron X, Stmax-Roket 3000, Volta-VS5 Max, YUKİ-Sportman-S. The CRITIC method, which is one of the multi-criteria decision-making methods, has been used to determine the importance levels of the criteria, and the COPRAS method, another multi-criteria decision-making method, has been used to rank the alternatives. According to the findings of the study, it has been determined that the highest level of importance belongs to the price criterion. The ranking of the importance levels of the other criteria is as follows: charging time, maximum speed, motor power, and charging distance. According to these criteria and importance levels, it has been determined that the top-ranked brand and model in the best motorcycle ranking is Volta-VS5 Max, and the lowest-ranked motorcycle brand and model is City Coco-V2.

- Summary/Abstract:According to the criterion of whether the referent is linguistically textualized or not in the universe of discourse, the usages of modern Turkish demonstratives can roughly be divided into the text dependent use and the non-text dependent use. Also, according to the criterion of repetition or deletion of the antecendent noun, the text dependent use of the demonstratives can further be subdivided into the anaphoric use and the non-anaphoric use. This study primarily focuses on some deictic properties preserved in the usage of the (text dependent) non-anaphoric bu, which are specific to the non-text dependent use, and reveals that all instances of the non-anaphoric bu can be treated as an intermediate form between the non-text dependent use and the anaphoric use, which is closer to the non-text dependent use. The following are the points argued in the text: (i) the non-anaphoric bu has the property of asymmetry which cannot be observed for the non-anaphoric o, (ii) the distribution of bu may vary depending on whether the referent is treated from the common perspective of the speaker and the hearer or not, (iii) o is a distance-sensitive demonstrative while bu is not, (iv) the difference between bu and o mentioned in (iii) can be explained by Balpınar's (2012) concept of controllability, (v) a referent is always accessible for the writer/reader as long as it remains within the controllable domain of the writer/reader. In this sense, it serves as a visual/situational referent reflecting the topic of the text. Besides, on the basis of the observations in (i)-(v), this study suggests that the non-anaphoric demonstrative bu has stronger deictic properties compared to the non-anaphoric o, and this account can be regarded as a consequence of the reflection of the deictic properties seen in the non-text dependent use on the (text dependent) non-anaphoric use.

- Summary/Abstract:History, on the one hand, refers to the whole of time-sequential events in past periods, and on the other hand, it is a science that tries to explain these events, whose subjects are human beings and societies, within the framework of cause and effect. While the practical equivalent of people's production-division and expenditure relations is called economy, the science of economics focuses on solving the problems arising from the functioning of these material foundations. In this direction, it tries to find a balanced correspondence between people's economic aspirations and the resources available to meet these aspirations. Economic history, on the other hand, lies at the intersection of history and economics and examines the economic activities of past periods and the institutions built on these activities from a long-term perspective. The importance of a long-term perspective here lies in the fact that, in contrast to the short-term character of political events, economic changes and trends can take their course in the long run. Despite the multiplicity of commonalities, economic history is a field of economics, not of history, since it examines the issues that come into existence in the time sequence of history within the framework of the characteristics of the science of economics. While a history of the world economy can be written with a general approach, subjective economic histories can also be written by considering certain sub-divisions such as geography, etc. The study of Ottoman-Turkish economic history is of this kind. In particular, the loss of the validity of linear approach theories of economic development has made the importance of Ottoman-Turkish economic history studies even more evident. The starting point of economic history research in Turkey can be traced back to the Anatolian Seljuk Empire (1075). Thus, economic history studies in Turkey can be emphasized in three main categories: the pre-Ottoman period, the Ottoman period and the Republican period. In this broad time span, it is important to open a separate parenthesis for the Ottoman economic history since the Ottoman period is the dominant period. It is possible to study the field of history of Ottoman economy by understanding the Ottoman economic system and explaining the problems faced by the economic practices operating around this system and the changes and transformations carried out to eliminate these problems in the context of cause and effect. This study aims at the first step. By approaching the material foundations of Ottoman society from a holistic perspective, the study aims to reveal the outlines of the Ottoman economic system in the context of framework, problem and mentality. For this purpose, deductive reasoning is adopted when using the analytical tools of economics to interpret historical events that can be materially grounded, and inductive reasoning is adopted when interpreting the findings and drawing general conclusions.

- Summary/Abstract:Climate change is one of our most serious problems. In this study, the relationships of climate change denial and negative footprint illusion with cognitive processes in relation to climate change are discussed. As cognitive processes, analytical and intuitive cognitive style, rational and intuitive decision-making in decision-making processes, sensitivity to the conjunction fallacy and justification of not taking enough responsibility in the solution processes of the environmental problem were used. A significant positive correlation was observed between intuitive thinking style and avoidance of environmental responsibility, and between justification of environmental responsibility, i.e. legitimisation, and the level of climate change denial. Individuals with negative footprint illusion were observed, but no significant interactions were observed in variables related to cognitive processes. Associations were also found between age and analytical style, and between intuitive style and the conjunction fallacy. The findings are discussed in the context of the climate change problem.

- Summary/Abstract:Agonistic democracy was conceptualized by Chantal Mouffe and Ernesto Laclau as a solution to the crisis of liberal democracy. Agonistic democracy focuses on two basic concepts, antagonism and hegemony. Agonistic democracy refers to the conversion of antagonisms into agonisms. It advocates tame antagonism, conflictual consensus, recognition and acceptance of differences, and pluralistic democracy in the political arena. In the study, is intra-party opposition an example of agonistic democracy? seeking an answer to the question. Intra-party opposition is compatible with agonistic democracy, but it should be evaluated in terms of differences in practice. The method of the study is based on literature review, social media analysis, compilation of newspapers and statements, and analysis of party statutes. Since the subject of the study has not been studied before, it is expected to contribute to the national literature.

- Summary/Abstract:Translation Studies, called in German as ‘Translationwissenschaft” and in French ‘Traductologie”, has developed quickly since the second half of the twentieth century and formed its own identity. In Akbulut’s terms, James S. Holes thought that Translation Studies had to be considered as a separate discipline and did, in Translation Studies, what Saussure, accepted as the founder of contemporary linguistics, did with his Cours de Liguistique; in other words, he began to form the basic terms of the discipline by evaluating the available data from different points. James S. Holmes both gave, in his article entitled ‘The Name and Nature of Translation Studies’ in 1972, a name to the discipline and formed a scheme defining the content of Translation Studies. Scholars discussed if ‘Translation Studies’ was a field within applied linguistics and Gideon Toury, after some theoretical and descriptive studies, defined Translation Studies as an interdisciplinary field in his book entitled In Search of a Theory of Translation (1980). Akbulut points out that Translation Studies has become an interdisciplinary and international academic discipline in the last four decades and a lot of developments have been observed because of its interdisciplinary characteristics and, it is characterized by the theories of Skopos, post-structuralism, feminism, semiotics, pragmatics, critical discourse analysis and linguistics. According to Kurultay, it is meaningless to discuss if ‘Translation Studies’ is a field of applied linguistics and, he states that it is autonomous discipline and there is an interdisciplinary relation between Translation Studies and Linguistics and not a superior-subordinate relation. ‘Translation Studies’ is related to the disciplines such as political science, sociology, linguistics, ethnology, psychology in addition to its characteristics of being an interdisciplinary discipline. In this study ‘Translation Studies’ will be examined in terms of interdisciplinarity and explained the relationship between Translation Studies, linguistics and applied linguistics.

- Summary/Abstract:Early marriage is a type of relationship that both sides are dissatisfied with and is often referred to as proper marriage. In such marriages, people like parents can use pressure and violence to convince the girl and the man. Some parents can lead to early marriages without regard to the basic rights of their children. Early marriage remains a major problem worldwide and in Afghanistan. Some people have to agree to marry someone else at the request of their parents, without their consent. Fear of domestic violence forces many girls and boys to early marriage, and if the family rejects this request, one can see serious physical and psychological harm. Unfortunately, in Afghanistan, although the number of underage marriages takes place in the absence of physical and mental maturity, there are mostly reluctant marriages. This broughtwith it many social, humanitarian and moral problems. According to the results of the research survey, various factors cause marriages in Afghanistan at an early age and child age. These factors include poverty, parents' decision, poor economic situation, lack of education, culture and family lifestyle.

- Summary/Abstract:This study will examine elections and voter behavior between the years 1960 and 1980. This period is important because it constitutes an exceptional period of Turkish political life in terms of the visibility of class politics. The main argument of the study is that class characteristics and, more specifically, economic factors became the main factors in voter behavior during this period. In this period of import-substitution capital accumulation, the references to the social state and the liberal structure of the 1961 Constitution provided an environment in which parties and organizations focusing on the working class could emerge and spread. In this case, the impact of industrialization and, as a result, urbanization was great. Internal immigrants, who broke off from their relationships based on traditional values with rural-urban migration, started to be articulated into new solidarity networks within the city. Neighborhood organizations, socialist organizations, and municipal practices accelerated the convergence of these masses to the left. Moreover, industrialization and unionization rates continued to increase during the same period. Despite this, the left could not become the dominant power in the country's politics, and the CHP became the main party of the left electorate due to the weakness of the socialist parties. However, this cooperation was not enough to fight against the Nationalist Front governments. During this period, while voter preferences were shaped by class dynamics, cultural factors continued to maintain their importance. In this respect, the period between 1960 and 1980 does not represent a complete break from other periods of Turkish political life. Moreover, the process has created a suitable ground not only for the socialist left but also for the emergence of far-right formations that were organized around anti-communist discourses.

- Summary/Abstract:Leibniz argues that consciousness of one's identity at every moment of time requires a substantial identity of the soul. On contrary Kant qualifies as logically wrong the inference that the identity of the person requires the identity of the soul in time on the basis of consciousness. The reason why an inference is logically wrong is that the middle term is used in a different sense in the premises. However, such a use of the middle term is not seen in personality inference. Moreover, Kant makes three arguments against the identity of the soul. The first is that my consciousness of my identity in time is the same as my consciousness of time. Second is that the identity of the soul cannot be known empirically by an outsider. The third is that it is possible for my consciousness to be carried by different substances. Accordingly, Kant concludes that the identity of the soul as a substance cannot be known. However, Kant's arguments do not seem sufficient to reject the identity of the substance to which my self-consciousness belongs. Because we have a consciousness that we are identical, this consciousness has more informational value than just a thought, and moreover, non-identical substances are not expected to have identity consciousness.
