Summary/Abstract: The monograph “Extraordinary Circumstances and Consideration Contracts” dates from the early period of Kubeš’s academic career, when his focus was on civil law. Kubeš completed his manuscript in January 1943 as a response to the extraordinary circumstances in the field of contract law caused by the war and the hundreds of newly issued regulations of the controlled economy, which significantly interfered with previously concluded contracts. Thus, Kubeš was not dealing with a topic that could only be classified as theoretical, but one that was extremely topical from the point of view of legal practice during the Nazi occupation of the Czech lands and the onset of the Second World War. Published eighty years after it was written, Kubeš’s manuscript is not only important in terms of legal history, but can also be a source of inspiration for contemporary civil law.
