Summary/Abstract: Artur Greiser was a model functionary of the National Socialist party, political leader (gauleiter) of the Land of Warta and governor of the state (Reichsstatthalter) in the part of occupied Poland annexed to the Reich. His career began when he joined the NSDAP - in his own words - for "bread and work." He worked his way up through all levels of promotion, into Hitler's circle of confidantes, showing his own initiative in carrying out the criminal plan to eradicate everything that testified to the Polishness of the land he was to Germanize. The book shows in detail the stages of his career, which began in Danzig, and the formation of the personality of the Nazi ruler responsible for the genocide committed against Poles and Jews. It presents evidence of the crime and complex historical and legal issues. Greiser's trial was the first to be held before the Supreme National Tribunal in 1946, and it prefigured the principles of criminal responsibility of a genocidist who himself, with his own hands, did not kill anyone. Before the Tribunal, the accused pleaded not guilty, claiming that he did not know about the crimes he was accused of, for the commission of which, he argued, only Hitler and Himmler were responsible. The prosecutor, Dr. Mieczyslaw Siewierski, a professor at the University of Lodz, played an important role in a fair trial.
