Summary/Abstract: The monograph addresses issues concerning the subjectivity of the child and the value of childhood in relation to how the ideas of Janusz Korczak are received in contemporary pedagogical. Korczak was the creator of an original system of upbringing based on respect, trust and love for the child. This recognised and respected pedagogue promoted the rights of the child, which he based on the assumption that the child is a person and that the attributes of their existence (including dignity) derive from this. Korczak attached great importance to the subjective treatment of the child, asserting that the child is the highest value. He also emphasised the child's creative approach to his or her own life and the formation of their own personality. In turn, in Korczak’s view, care during childhood, which is the right of the child, should be linked to the responsibility of adults (parents, educators in care institutions) in the process of upbringing. References to Janusz Korczak's ideas are evident in contemporary pedagogy, as exemplified by the thriving ‘Korczak Dream Schools’ in Poland. This publication is addressed to representatives of many sciences, including the humanities, social sciences, theorists and researchers dealing with childhood, teachers, educators, parents, students of sociology, pedagogy, family studies, psychologists, and also the wider audience interested in issues related to the child and childhood.
