Summary/Abstract: Although multiculturalism as a concept within the humanities is a somewhat exhausted topic, we want to define the space that remains unfilled within the multicultural approach in Czech society. Our aim is to draw attention to the possibilities of rethinking multicultural ideology on the basis of a critical approach to it and to the possibilities of its application in the spheres of education and training. We want to show how an overemphasis on ethnic differentiation devalues the goals of multiculturalism based on fair access even across other types of differences. Unless we set out ways of talking about the ideas of multiculturalism without narrowing the issue to ethnicity, we have no hope of adopting multicultural education as a necessary part of the school curriculum, as a platform for a new social paradigm.
