Summary/Abstract: This book explores the relationship between pragmatism and sociology, highlighting their long-term and deep-rooted theoretical dialogue. Although both approaches share similar interests, their interrelationship is often difficult to analyze due to diversified theoretical traditions. Classical pragmatism, with an emphasis on the role of modern science in understanding the world, influences sociology, which, like pragmatism, strives for theory not only to explain the functioning of the world, but also to provide insights into effective ways of changing it. The author particularly focuses on the works of Emile Durkheim and John Dewey as paradigmatic authors that show these theoretical overlaps. Durkheim, through his lectures at the Sorbonne, connects pragmatism with sociology, suggesting that sociology offers a unique theory of truth that, despite the popularity of the positivist approach, is deeply rooted in pragmatism. This chapter therefore offers an analysis of the initial theoretical overlaps and lays the groundwork for a deeper consideration of their interrelationships, particularly in the context of common sense research.
