Summary/Abstract: The present workbook aims to highlight the lack of correspondence between letter and sound in the English language and the many ways in which a given sound may be represented in spelling. It also offers a collection of exercises in IPA transcription on word level that are focused on individual sounds. Each sound is represented by the most common and rare spellings with example words and exceptions. Since the workbook is focused on practice rather than theoretical explanations, it is recommended as a supplementary resource to other transcription or phonetic textbooks for more advanced English learners.
