Summary/Abstract: With the development of the software industry, software has become an integral part of the work of organizations of all types and even more generally – of the mechanisms of functioning of societies. The monograph reviews various studies devoted to software, as studies focused on optimizing the software engineering process in order to reduce costs and maximize the profit of developers, as well as studies considering software as an intellectual product and emphasizing the importance of intellectual property protection for the economic realization of software, in order to reveal the technical, legal and economic characteristics of the software solution. The author emphasizes that despite the numerous studies devoted to software, the role of licensing is often neglected. The study aims to reveal the engineering characteristics of software and their impact on the market product, the key role of software in value chains, the specifics of software licensing transactions and various licensing strategies, since the development of new software and the market realization of software are carried out exclusively through licensing transactions. In conclusion, the author shows that software licensing is essential for the development of the software industry and the functioning of the software market.
