Summary/Abstract: Effective prevention and protection against all forms of gender-based violence and domestic violence is one of the obligations established by ratified international documents in this area, and forms an important part of the normative framework of the Republic of Serbia and accompanying strategic documents. Gender-based violence is one of the most prevalent forms of violence, both globally and in the Republic of Serbia, and data show that almost 30% of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence during their lifetime. The Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence recognizes that women and girls are at greater risk of gender-based violence and that domestic violence disproportionately affects women compared to men.
