Summary/Abstract: From the nineties of the 20th century until today, the Republic of Serbia has repeatedly faced an intense influx of refugees and migrants and has ensured the protection of internally displaced persons. Such situations have led to the adaptation of limited state services and the organization of professionals in the non-governmental and private sector, who provide assistance to people in the field of mental health protection and psychosocial support, to form specialized programs and direct their forces to the most vulnerable within this population. The extensive experience of professionals in working with victims of war and political persecution, as well as the understanding of the complexity of the problems that many of them face, have influenced that individuals from the helping professions (psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, pedagogues, etc.), as well as representatives of their associations, continuously point to the necessity of developing state strategies and policies for the protection of the mental health of internally displaced persons, refugee and migrant populations.
