Summary/Abstract: During Barack Obama's presidency, American-German relations could be called a "partnership in leadership." Although there was no shortage of disputes and irritations between Washington and Berlin, caused by the so-called wiretapping scandal or a certain assertiveness of Germany towards the expectations of the American side, it was Chancellor Merkel that President Obama called his best partner, a great leader and a person of great morality towards the end of his term in the White House. Similarly, the American president enjoyed great recognition and respect from the Germans.
