Summary/Abstract: The authors look at the problem of the image of Poland and Poles in the eyes of German society from two perspectives. First, through the prism of social perceptions of Poland as a country beyond the eastern border and Poles as neighbors. Second, by narrowing the perspective to the image of Poles living and migrating to Germany. The image of Poland and Poles in Germany emerging from the analysis of public opinion polls and press publications is ambiguous. Positive aspects of the image of Poland and Poles are present to a greater extent in the German press, where two elements of the image of Poland can be distinguished: as an important European actor and as a country with a dynamically developing economy. At the same time, the results of surveys show that positive changes in discourse do not necessarily translate into the attitudes of Germans.
