Summary/Abstract: The family is one of the basic institutions in every society. It is the social groupthat constitutes a transmission belt integrating individuals into broader social systems.Its efficient functioning brings about both the well-being of individuals and the effectivefunctioning of complex macro-social systems. Systematically conducted scientificresearch indicates the dynamic changes that take place within this basic microsocialsystem. The observed changes occur primarily within an extend of the structure – inthe positions and roles of the marriage and family. They also relate to the functionsthat are currently carried out by families and their functional equivalents. The changesin the connections between partners, directed towards the personal dimension, resultprimarily from the progressive process of the individualization of life. Family life isconditioned by many factors of a socio-economic, cultural, and demographic nature.The texts comprised in this monograph present interdisciplinary views of the authorson various aspects of family life in the changing social reality. This book seemsto be an important contribution to the discussion about the contemporary family andthe challenges it is to face.
