Summary/Abstract: The volume pertains to the fate of the Jewish population in Wartheland (mainly Koło, Kutno, Kalisz and Włocławek), excluding the city of Lodz. The majority of testimonies concerns the period from the first days of the war until March/April 1942. They describe crimes committed by the Wehrmacht in the period of Military Administration (until October 1939), the first anti-Jewish directives of the Civil Administration (e.g. the order to create the Judenrats and the ghettoes), as well as the forced resettlement of Jews to the General Government. Many documents include recollections from the pre-war period or sketches from the history of the given cities (especially interesting for Inowrocław and Kutno).
