Summary/Abstract: The volume contains the documents of the fates of the Lodz Jews in the years 1939–1942, mainly reports, memoirs and letters but also poetry and official announcements. The first part of the volume presents the situation from the last days of August 1939 until the establishment of the ghetto in February 1940. The second part includes the texts on the living conditions in the ghetto. A significant part are announcements and decrees issued by Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski completed by the description of the official ghetto currency, official prints, and the calendar for the year 1942 published in the ghetto.
