Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the development of industry in Lower Silesia in the years of 1936-1956 in the context of the question about the role of knowledge in the production process. He suggests a connection between the collapse of industrial production in the region after 1945 and the displacement of the German population. He shows the results of a loss of information networks, assuming that certain categories of knowledge cannot be "stored" in any other way than through human memory.
