Summary/Abstract: Different aspects of Maat, a key concept in ancient Egyptian culture – translated as truth, justice, law, order, wisdom, honesty. Ancient Egyptians considered Maat to be the foundation of both the earthly world and cosmic harmony. The author analyses the notion of Maat found in ancient texts: in wisdom literature (the so called Instructions), in funeral autobiographical inscriptions, in other texts connected with the dead, in hymns to the Sun-god and in other royal inscriptions.
