Summary/Abstract: Throughout the history, the police have always represented significant power of society. Social community established the police institution for its own protection, the protection of the social order on which it had been established, personal protection and protection of the property of each social community member. The role of police was changing in the past depending on social and economic relations in the community the police were operating. The democracy level attained in the society was significantly affecting the role of police and its work. Due to this, in reasearching possibilities on social control over police power, it is important to look into all the aspects of the social development and how it affects strategies of police work, which is necessary to meet all the needs of citizens.
