Summary/Abstract: The author analyses Garšāspnāme, a Persian epic masterpiece, written by Asadi of Tus. He explores two genres of epic: heroic-mythic and narrative, describes the character of Garšāsp, the protagonist of the work and discusses the hero’s personality, performed functions and relationships to other figures of the old Iranian tradition at various stages of the myth development. He also discusses the geographical and travel context of the Garšāsp myth.
