Summary/Abstract: Author of the suggested book analyzes life and creativity of Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi (1864–1913) who was a prominent modernist of Ukrainian literature. This research is reflected in three important aspects: biographical, aesthetical and social. The biography, worldview and private relations of the writer, which cause controversial tension in criticism, are comprehended in this book. First of all in Kotsiubynskyi’s literary works we can observe bright examples of creative evolution, art syncretism, European idea and national identity. The athor of the book also reveal very interesting ways of finding writer’s place in the literary cannon. The book will be useful for all who are interested in Ukrainian culture and in its contemporary rethinking.
