Summary/Abstract: The monograph is to a large extent an account of research that aimed to diagnose the personality traits and educational competences of oligophrenopedagogues and, at the same time, to check the consistency of expectations in this area with the actual state of affairs. The first chapter discusses theories of personality, ways of its examination and desirable traits of oligophrenopedagogues. The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of teachers' competences, especially educational competences of special educators. The methodological part describes research problems, hypotheses, methods and tools, as well as the organization of the research. The main part of the book presents the course of focus group research, quantitative analyses of selected personality traits and competences of oligophrenopedagogues (results of direct research), case studies involving four female teachers, as well as opinions of parents of children with intellectual disabilities. The advantage of the book is an interdisciplinary look at the figure of an oligophrenopedagogue, allowing to create its multidimensional image. The publication will be helpful to researchers, teachers and students of special education seeking answers to questions about the direction of their development and the attributes of a teacher who works effectively with children with intellectual disabilities.
