Summary/Abstract: In this book the author interpretates the meaning of the duty of faithfulness to the Commonwealth of Poland described in the article 82 of the Constitution of Poland. Contesting to date findings of the doctrine of the Polish constitutional law on the meaning of this duty, the author is reaching to the Polish constitutional tradition, analysing consecutive Polish constitutions in order to find whether the duty of faithfulness was described in their text and to determine the interpretation of this duty by legal doctrine of that time. Moreover the author in his deliberations is making use of records of sessions of the Constitutional Commission of the National Assembly which was working on the project of the Constitution of Poland in years 1992–1997. The author is referring to the work of this Commission with purpose to determine how the duty of faithfulness to the Commonwealth of Poland as well as terms “the nation” and “the commonwealth” were then understood. Conclusions summarize the findings and establish the interpretation of the duty of faithfulness to the Commonwealth of Poland described in the article 82 of the Constitution of Poland.
