Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the creation of Sister Magdalina Nicolescu, who had a keen interest in psalm music in the Romanian church culture. In 1933 she was mother superior at Zamfira Monastery, and among her psalms there is the Service devoted to Saint Martyr Philoftheia, preserved in the Minei edition printed in 1873 by Cernica Monastery Press. The analysis of the text considers it a model for education highlighting spiritual education, not only the intellectual one. The hymns of the Vespers sooth the souls of those who pray, after the turmoil of the day, bringing them the inner peace of prayer, preparing them for the uplifting moment of Litia, the Blessing of the Bread, accompanied by specific hymns and leading to the hymns at the end of the Service, whose texts concentrate on the redeeming life and deeds of the celebrated saint.
