Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to outline some problems of the contextual treatment of the nomen proprium, taking into account, on the one hand, the surroundings of the name, and on the other, the relation to the text constituting the basis for the translation. The author points out, inter alia, on the difference between the nomen proprium and a common word, on the origin of names, their etymology and the related issue of translating proper names. She draws attention to a variety of adaptation measures that bring the name closer to the Polish recipient and the attitude towards translation tradition.
