Summary/Abstract: The subject of the paper is developing “a reader” as a research category in the Polishbibliological thought after war (1946—1960). The very conceptions, formed in theoreticalworks in question and particular research realizations were to a large extent a continuationof a bibliological and library theory as well as a library practice of the interwar period, but atthe same time, brought new research and terminological proposals, especially after a politicalthaw in 1956. They became an important stage of development of the Polish theory of bookscience, influencing its evolution towards “an open discipline” and “meta-discipline”.
