Summary/Abstract: This article is about the image and reception of Sarajevo in travel books written in German idiom, which appeared a little bit earlier than two centuries ago and which are the result of authentic travels of their authors. In doing so, most of the analysed body of the respective texts refers to the time-period just before and during the Austrian-Hungarian rule in BiH and to the contemporary events after 1990. A mediated image of Sarajevo has been analysed in an imagological sense by putting an emphasis on the subjective perception of travel writers. Based on the mediated information and data, the analysed travel books represent valuable historical and cultural documents. Texts of the following authors shall be, inter alia, analysed: Otto Blau, Franz Maurer, Heinrich Renner, Hermann Wendel, Peter Vervoort, Juli Zeh, Elisabeth Gschaider.
