Summary/Abstract: The article presents reflections on Elena Chizhova’s novel "The Time of Women", which won the Booker Prize in 2009. The author focuses on the manifestations of female solidarity in an unusual family of five unrelated women who live in a shared communal flat. The background of the novel is their heroic struggle against the soulless machinery of Soviet rule and absurd regulations in order to survive and maintain family unity and relative quality of life under conditions of widespread poverty after World War II.
