Summary/Abstract: The article discusses questions related to the fixed, hermetic models of conducting scientific research in different scholarly circles. The nature of these models, the prevailing interests and methods of analysis are to some extent dependent on non-scientific premises – social, economic, political and historical. An example is the French understanding of the language phenomena that are the subject of linguistic research. The related methodology based on “enunciation theory” (théorie de l’énonciation) differs significantly from the Polish approach. Polish linguistics and French linguistics utilize two separate models with two separate research cultures. The article shows these differences using the example of research related to notions of dialogicality and polyphony.
