Summary/Abstract: Polish perfective verbs with the do- prefix are mostly divided according to the following criteria: approaching a certain boundary, finality, movement, performing an action to/on an object, and effectivity. We adopt approaching a boundary as the main criterion, applicable to all such verbs, and, following Witold Śmiech (1986), distinguish among them effective-cum-movement, effective and supplementary verbs. Their translation, as observed in the online dictionary Glosbe.com, is not based, as we initially presumed, on French verbs complemented by adverbs, but first of all on the more precise non-prefixed verbal equivalents, above all – perfective or terminative, in the further alternative – on using other verbs, including hyperonyms, on employing “reversed” verbs, verbs demanding the preposition jusqu’à, on referring to the context, and finally – on using participles and nouns.
