Summary/Abstract: The author discusses numerous titles of Italian novels translated into Polish. She exemplifies the particular difficulties, caused by semantic differences between words seemingly equivalent in both languages, by specific allusions in the titles, by the presence of proper nouns, or even by the apparent simplicity of the original text, which, however, cannot possibly be expressed in a similar manner in Polish.
