Summary/Abstract: The text is an attempt to look for an adequate theoretical key to a better understanding of the phenomenon of the new Catholic feminism. Gawkowska analyzes the similarities and differences between the new feminism and, in turn, the mainstream feminism, communitarianism, and the realist philosophy. Each of these three philosophies has something in common with the new feminism: the feminist appeal for the real equality of women, the communitarian attention focused on human relations, and the realist approach towards human nature as intrinsic, while also viewing it in metaphysical terms. What differerentiates the new feminism from the analyzed perspectives is, in turn: the essentialist perspective on women, the universalist position on values, and new feminism’s much more egalitarian standing on men and women as opposed to the traditional Aristotelian-Thomistic realism in this regard. In conclusion, the author argues that the third key, realist philosophy, appears to be the most adequate to understanding the new feminism, though in a modified way and with significant contributions from both feminism and communitarianism.
