Summary/Abstract: An extremely broad harmonization of private law is currently underway in Europe. This leads to the creation of Principles of European Contract Law (PECL) and of Draft Common Frame of Reference (DCFR). In order to create the European private law of tomorrow we should understand the nature and origin of national legal concepts and institutions. This would be possible by teaching Roman law and adding it in the general structure of some basic concepts of national legal systems.
