Summary/Abstract: The necessity and the possibility of forming a unified European law, creating a European legal identity while preserving the specifics of individual national legal systems is justified by the unprecedented movement of people, goods and capital between countries in Europe. The article presents the role and place of Roman law as a model of uniform legislation inside or outside the institutional EU frameworks.
