Summary/Abstract: The interest that festivals arouse has led us to set up this study, which responds to a primarily historian concern. After a first part which questions the history and the origin of this literary event and its peculiarities, the second presents the functions of the festival which becomes a factor of literary legitimation, notoriety and reputation for the territories and for the writers. With the help of sociological surveys and analyzes applied to literary festivals, we will address in this work the question of the literary festival as a threshold towards the world of the imaginary, able to play the role of opening towards a magical universe where time loses its bearings while space has no more borders.
