Summary/Abstract: In 1888, the Museums Association in Brno was founded as a reaction to the growing Czech social and national life. In the Brno region, southern and south-western Moravia, in the years 1888-1900 the association focused mainly on archaeological activities and the collection of a large archaeological collection. Under the organizational leadership of Josef Hladík, it explored more than 50 sites and focused most of its attention on the prehistoric hillfort in Brno-Obřany. In its activities, the association was limited by the lack of financial resources, problems with sufficient space for the collections and competence disputes, especially with the Patriotic Museum Association in Olomouc. Despite these difficulties, in the last decade of the 19th century the Museums Association played a key role in the development of archaeological knowledge in South Moravia and gathered the largest archaeological collection in the region, which was transferred to the collections of the František Museum in Brno in 1900.
