Summary/Abstract: The socio-economic crisis in the EU caused by the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has led to a decline in economic development, an increase in public spending, budget deficits and public debts, putting pressure on social systems and increasing poverty worldwide. A second crisis, immediately after the first one, was caused by the Russian military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which forced the EU, due to the increased electricity prices, to urgently adopt strategies for energy security and independence from energy supplies from Russia, betting on a transition to a clean energy from renewable energy sources, which would guarantee a secure energy supply at affordable prices and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, within a stable general economic environment. The Union has also begun to allocate serious funds to energy connectivity, balance, affordability and sustainability among its member states.
