Summary/Abstract: The report provides a comparative analysis on the scope and limitations of the modern concept of privacy in the digital space in the legal systems of the EU and the United States. The influence of the European Court of Human Rights case law on the formation of the concept of privacy in the EU is emphasized. Attention is focused on the specifics of the perception of privacy and data protection in the legal systems; which affects the approach to regulating the digital space as a whole.
