Summary/Abstract: The Ukrainian crisis is an arena of geopolitical conflict in which the interests of Russia, NATO and the EU intertwine. It is in this context, that the behavior of our political institutions must be analyzed. A key place in this work is allocated to the question of the extent to which Bulgaria’s commitments as a member of NATO and the EU are respected, but also how the deep ties between Russia and our country affect the Bulgarian institutions. In the first section, I analyze the reaction of Bulgarian political institutions to the Ukrainian crisis; I trace the positions of the Bulgarian governments, the main political parties and the presidential institution. In the second part, I highlight the tools used by Russia in order to influence Bulgarian political institutions and pro cesses, as well as the counter–measures taken by the United States and the EU. Due to the deepening confrontation between Washington and Brussels, on the one hand, and Moscow, on the other, I defend the view that Sofia needs to be more consistent in fulfilling its commitments to NATO and the EU.
