Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to analyze the impact of the COVID–19 pandemic on populisms – both ruling and in opposition - and thus its impact on the stability of liberal democracy. Against the backdrop of the various policies implemented by different populist regimes and the different reactions of the opposition, we conclude that the pandemic, despite its negative impact on democracy in general, has some positive consequences in destabilizing populism, and that it is not going to bring about the mass emergence of populist democracies.
